Builder Story
The roots of our company trace back to 1983 when Howard Buescher, then a 23-year veteran of the homebuilding business, and his daughter, Sue Girard, founded a new homebuilding company. At the time, Howard and his wife, Mercedes, were planning to retire to sunny Florida when Sue convinced him to build a “few” homes with her in the area. Their goal was simple: provide customers with superior homes at a superior value. The company focused on quality construction, exceptional craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Together, Howard and Sue built a company that would eventually become one of the largest privately owned homebuilders in the country.
Today, more than four decades later, the family tradition continues through the next generation. Sue and her husband, Greg Girard, raised their four children in the homebuilding industry, spending countless hours on job sites and learning the business from the ground up. From an early age, Zack, Parker, Colton, and Sadie were exposed to every aspect of homebuilding and development, while Greg shared his knowledge of construction management, framing, and trim carpentry gained through years of hands-on experience in the field.
While still in high school, Zack officially joined the family business and expanded his knowledge through sales, marketing, product design, and operations. After graduating, Zack moved to Columbia, Missouri to attend the University of Missouri, with Parker following a few years later. During his sophomore year, Zack once again followed in the family footsteps and convinced his mother to build a few homes in the area. Today, Zack and Parker lead Girard Homes in Missouri, building a reputation for high-quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and exceptional customer relationships.
At the same time, Colton and Sadie have continued the family legacy in Southwest Florida through Howard B. Homes, the Naples-based division of the family business named in honor of their grandfather, Howard Buescher. Together, they work closely with clients throughout Southwest Florida, helping families design and build custom and semi-custom homes while carrying forward the same values of quality, integrity, and personal service that have defined the family for generations.
